Take a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and head out to Great Country Farm for a day of healthy fun with your family. Located at the base of the beautiful Blue Ridge mountains, this 400-acre working farm is a delightful destination.

Start your visit off with a tractor ride to the u-pick fields. Depending on the season, you can pick ripe blueberries from bushes, pinch green beans from their plant or pluck peaches from from trees. There simply isn’t a way to get locally grown produce any fresher!Screen Shot 2016-07-01 at 12.48.34 PM

When you are through picking, visit with residents of Great Country Farm. No, we don’t mean the farmers (though you are likely to see Farmer Mark riding around on his tractor)! We’re talking about the miniature horses, pot-bellied pig, emus, turkeys and other animals that call the barnyard home. Kids of all ages will enjoy feeding the animals who love to welcome visitors! Don’t forget your camera – there are sure to be some fantastic photo opportunities.

Meander down the path, take off your shoes and bounce to your heart’s content on the gigantic pumpkin pillow. Jump up and down on the built in inflatable surrounded by breathtaking views of the mountains. Not up for jumping? No problem! Sit back and listen to the squeals of delight from the kids as you relax in one of many comfortable adirondack chairs!

Corn Maze’s are popular in the Fall, but at Great Country Farm you can get lost in their permanent maze year-round. Challenge the family to wind through the stalks, up and down bridges and create memories that are guaranteed to last a lifetime.

All this activity coupled with fresh mountain air will probably leave you hungry. There are plenty of shaded picnic tables and grassy areas to enjoy a picnic lunch. There is even a dog-friendly, fenced in area! Uh-oh, forgot the picnic basket at home? No, worries, you won’t go hungry! The “Roosterant” serves up made to order flatbread pizza, hot dogs, chicken sandwiches and salads.  Save room for dessert! You’ll find locally made hand-dipped ice cream and farm-fresh cider donuts.

With renewed energy, head on over to the farm play area. Here you will find tractor tires to climb on, ropes to swing on and 6 giant tube slides to race down.

Before heading back to the car, stop by the market. It is stocked full of fruits and vegetables that were picked fresh from the fields and orchards of the farm. The farmhands in the market will happily offer storage and cooking suggestions. You will also find fresh kettle corn, cold drinks and an array of home decor items.

There is lots of fun to be had at Great Country Farm. Chances are the kids won’t even realize how healthy and educational their visit was!
